INTRODUCTION

Who are we

St.Ritah Women Development Association is a local women community based organization (CBO) under Reg No.CBO/1893 and MIA/NB/2022/10/142. The organization is run by women fully registered at local level and National level. The organization started by a group of self-motivated women who emerged with a developmental plan of initiating an organization on 12th MAY 2014 and registered it with relevant Government agencies. It solely benefits women as their direct beneficiaries.

The Idea of starting up this organization was perceived by this gender based group after currying out a comprehensive research on the level of development of the people of Kisinga town council.

St.Ritah Women Development Association was created in the 2014’s with the aim to promote women greater coordination, communication and cooperation among the women present in various rural areas of Bunyangabu district and neighboring districts especially in Rwenzori region.

St.Ritah Women Development Association translates as ‘love between people and it’s a reflection of the love shared.

St.Ritah Women Development Association works with the poor women, vulnerable and excluded, regardless of race or religion. This work requires professional competence as well as a “formation of heart” which testifies to a faith expressed through charitable work.

Our Mission

To promote an environment, in which women and the female youth are cared for, supported, bodily, mentally, socially, and with an emphasis on education, nutrition, entrepreneurship and social support to facilitate a meaningful life.

Objectives

  1. To motivate disadvantaged and marginalized rural poor women to take full participation in programmes that enables them to realize their full potential that will help them o meet their basic needs.
  2. To inspire women to initiate projects which are directed towards elimination of poverty, unemployment, disease, hunger and illiteracy.
  3. Implementing community environmental friendly projects that will conserve the environment for future generation.
  4. Promoting Gender equality by empowering youth, women and children realize their rights in relation to gender equality in terms of socio-economic development by implementing projects that directly benefits them in regardless to any gender discrimination.
  5. Striving to develop the organization’s local partner policies and systems for effective and efficient service delivery.
  6. Strengthening health care systems in partnership with Health providers and international and local NGOs to deliver effective and sustainable health services to individuals, families and communities.

 Faith in action

We are inspired by the Gospels, by the teachings of the apostles and by the hopes of people living in poverty. We encourage everyone to respond to humanitarian disasters, to promote integral human development and to advocate on the causes of poverty and violence. We animate orthodox Catholic communities and all people of good will in solidarity with the suffering of their brothers and sisters around the world.

Emergency response

St.Ritah Women Development Association responds practically to humanitarian crises affecting women such as natural disasters, conflict and the effects of climate change. We save lives, relieve suffering and help rebuild livelihoods and communities in the longer-term. This allows women and men in the poorest and most vulnerable communities to survive and recover from crises and to live in a safe and secure environment.

Transforming lives

St.Ritah Women Development Association promotes integral human development so that people in the worst off and most disadvantaged communities are free to flourish and live in peace and dignity. We work to ensure that our natural environment is managed responsibly and sustainably in the interests of the entire human family.

Calling for a better world

St.Ritah Women Development Association seeks a world where the voices of the poor are heard and acted upon. This is a world where women and men in the poorest and most disadvantaged communities are able to influence the systems, decisions and resources that affect them. They can then live under governments, institutions and global structures that are just and accountable.

GOVERNANCE:

St.Ritah Women Development Association is a Community Based Organization dedicated to the service of the poor women and to8 the promotion of charity, justice and the integral human development.

Every five years, the annual general assembly gathers and elects. The most recent gathering of the General Assembly was in December 2023. The General Assembly elects the Representative

The General Assembly elects the President/executive director and Secretary General. The treasurer is elected by AGM. The president and vice president are ex officio members of the Executive Board. The Treasurer and the chair of the Legal Affairs Commission are also members of the Executive Board.
